Performance Evaluation of a New CZT Detector for Nuclear Medicine: SOLSTICE
نویسندگان
چکیده
Solstice is a new concept of gamma camera designed to use the better energy resolution typically available in solid-state detectors. To that purpose, an array of 88 Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CdZnTe or CZT) crystals was characterized for gamma ray detection performance. The bias voltage was applied to the single electrode cathode side of the crystal (radiation side). The anode side of the individual crystals was further subdivided into 32 anodes connected to a charge sensitive preamplifier/shaper circuit for each pixel that provided a virtual ground potential for the anodes. Overall, the vast majority of pixels (85%) of pixels had an energy resolution (FWHM) better than 5% at 140 keV and an outstanding 3.6% FWHM at 140 keV was measured for the overall composite energy resolution over this large population of pixels. Results from the crystal characterization along with overall system performance are discussed. The imaging performance of the detector is covered in a separated paper at this conference [1].

Design Considerations for a New Solid-State Gamma-Camera: SOLSTICE
This paper presents an alternative to conventional gamma camera. The proposed system is based on the combination of a new detection material – CZT and a new acquisition geometry – 1D detector with slat collimator. The slat collimator offers a better compromise to the usual sensitivity-resolution tradeoff. Solid-state detection offers significantly improved energy resolution. The combination of ...

Introduction: In nuclear medicine, the use of a pixelated semiconductor detector such as CZT is an of growing interest for introducing new devices. Especially, the spatial resolution can be improved by using a pixelated parallel-hole collimator with equal holes and pixel sizes based on the pixelated detector. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of pixelated and ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a small cadmium zinc telluride detector for scintimammography.
UNLABELLED The purpose of this study was to evaluate a small semiconductor-based gamma camera that may have applications in scintimammography. METHODS A small cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector was evaluated. The detector had a field of view of 20 x 20 cm with detector elements of 2.5 x 2.5 mm in size. Both short-bore (35 mm) and long-bore (50 mm) collimators, matched to the geometry of th...
متن کاملDual radioisotopes simultaneous SPECT of 99mTc-tetrofosmin and 123I-BMIPP using a semiconductor detector.
Objective(s): The energy resolution of a cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) solid-state semiconductor detector is about 5%, and is superior to the resolution of the conventional Anger type detector which is 10%. Also, the window width of the high-energy part and of the low-energy part of a photo peak window can be changed separately. In this study, we used a semiconductor detector and examined the ef...
متن کاملSimulation studies of CZT Detectors as Gamma-Ray Calorimeter
Several astrophysics and nuclear physics applications require the detection of photons in the energy range of keV up to several MeV with good position and energy resolution. For certain applications Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) detectors might be the detector option of choice. Up to now, CZT detectors have mainly been used in the energy range between a few keV and ∼1 MeV. They operate at room t...
